My husband was not happy that I took this picture. I think he as well as many others feel that putting a camera in front of someone somehow violates their privacy. Though I understand this, I feel so differently about it. My camera is an extension of my eyes and my heart. It takes in reality as I see it and the outcome is what I feel. I am still getting over the fear of taking pictures of someone or something because I am afraid of the consequences. But refraining from taking an image of something unpleasant is like turning a blind eye to reality. I don’t believe in walking in a dream world. I am above all things a story teller. I hope that images like these can open eyes and hearts rather than closing them.

Beggars. Sadly, too much of a common sight in Italy.

This is Jocelyn, one of my dearest friends in the whole world. The funny thing is…I think there are a lot of people who would call her that. Because her heart is that big and therefore loved that much. She’s a special girl and I’m so happy she’s found someone worthy of her heart. Though we’re all very protective of her, I can’t see any of use making threats to Stephen like “You better take good care of our friend or I’m after you!”. Because with every move he puts her needs before his own. And for that, we all willingly put our dear friend in his hands. 10 days and counting. I love you so so much!

The Beautiful Ponte Vecchio :: Firenze, Italia

Ponte Vecchio is one of the oldest wholly stone bridges in all of Europe. During WWII, it was the only bridge left standing after the Germans destroyed all other bridges in Florence. It was under construction when we visited as you can see to the left. I absolutely love all the little shops lined up on the bridge so they look like tiny buildings balancing on stone legs. These shops were once mostly occupied by butchers, now they are mostly jewelry, art and souvenir shops. I wish I had taken the time to take more pictures of this beautiful and unique bridge along the Arno.

There is an earthiness that I loved about Pisa. It's very unique to this little town.

When the little town of Pisa is mentioned, usually the only image that comes to mind is the Leaning Tower. It is quite a lovely sight to behold I must admit, but my first thoughts when I arrived in Pisa was “Ugh, this is such a tourist trap!” The gate of the town was crawling with tourists taking pictures like this one. It can’t be helped, so we joined the masses. After we did our tourist duties, we immediately decided to go as far into the little town as we can to get away from the crowd. We found a quaint little college town hopping with the students who attend the local art college. In contrast to the crazy crowds in the front of the city, the locals in the back were sipping coffee, eating gelato, and enjoying their lazy afternoon.

We climbed to the very top of Brunelleschi's dome in Florence. This shot was taken from inside the dome on our way up. We climbed more than 600 steps, but the view was worth every step!!!
