Birthdays Are About Friendship and Love

My birthday was 2 weeks ago and I haven’t had a chance to write about it until now. When I was a kid, birthdays are all about treats, presents, and parties. But as the years go by and I find myself forgetting my age (sometimes intentionally and other times unintentionally), presents and celebrations don’t excite me nearly as much as it once did.

On the morning of my birthday I got a text from a good friend to tell me she had left breakfast and tulips for me on my doorsteps. She texted this as she was driving away. Then later that morning, my kids’ friends arrived for a playdate with their mothers (my friends) loaded with flowers and cupcakes. All this was done so casually, but the thoughtfulness meant the world to me. Little reminders from my husband and kids throughout the day though small makes me realize how rich life is when I’m surrounded by those whom I love and love me. Love is all that I need. Thank you!

Plates, Plates, and More Plates!

Just finished another shoot for Kamon Sushi. They are one of my favorite sushi places in Sacramento. No fluff, just honest to goodness fresh fish. Amongst my favorites are their Chirashi and Saba Teriyaki. I consider myself a Chirashi connoisseur because it’s a dish I try at every Japanese restaurant. I have yet to find one that can match the size of the sashimi they put in Kamon’s Chirashi. And the best thing is, you get a lot of bang for your buck.

The first photo is their $20 roll, it’s HUGE!!! And the other 2 are their teriyaki chicken and beef party platters. Sorry…no pictures of their chirashi. Perhaps I should make a request!

Slow Mornings

christmas01-2It has been a very hectic year, but one thing that I still enjoy is a slow morning with my kids. I make them pancakes, eggs and fresh juices or smoothies every morning. Next year our schedule will no longer be the same. I will savor every second of what I have with them right now.

Have Some Fun with ABCs, 123 & #@$:*)

Have you ever known anyone who always knows about the newest and coolest stuff out there? That’s what Extraordinique is to me. Every time I visit their site I always find neat things like fun baby leggings that are not a pain to potty train with, environmentally friendly water bottles, or chocolate with bacon (yes, you heard right…bacon.)

So I was thrilled when I was asked by Extraordinique to do a shoot of these very cool ice cube trays made by Sillycone. You can freeze just about anything in them and do some pretty fun things. Because of the frozen nature of the shoot, it was much more challenging than I had anticipated. I had a blast, and anything to make my friends at Extraordinique smile. Note to self: Ice melts, shoot fast!

Visit their blog for some fun recipes that you see in these photos.

Kamon Sushi

I was in Sushi heaven. First shoot, then eat. I think I could have died the next day and have been perfectly happy. This was a shoot for Kamon Sushi.
